Loutraki is a small beach about 12km east of Chania town, very close to Marathi, a picturesque fishing hamlet. This is a small cove off the exit of the gulf of Souda, on the southern side of Akrotiri peninsula, protected from strong winds.
The beach is not on a bus route but it is a short distance from Chania town which makes it very popular with the locals. The beach is organised and has fine sand and clear blue waters. Here you will find a quiet tavern, along with a large beach bar with loud music and many young people.
If you get here, it is worth dropping by to the nearby beach of Marathi for one more dip. You can also visit the nearby monasteries Agia Triada and Gouverneto. The two monasteries date back to the 16th and 17th century respectively, they are steeped in history and are excellent examples of architecture.
